In terms of balance I agree, the Pistons with Prince, Wallace, and Maxiell have a deadly combination of offense, defense, intensity, and chemistry. Honorable mentions should go to Orlando with Howard, Turkoglu, and Lewis, though they are a bit undersized so that hurts them, and Boston with Perkins, Garnett, and Pierce but I say Detroit still plays better together.

If the Lakers are healthy and learn to work together though, it's scary to think about Odom, Bynum, and Pasol with their length and height on the court at the same time.

I'm quite sure it was Wilt Chamberlain, although I don't think he played his first year in the NBA until 1959 so you might be a bit off on 1951 being the year that happened.

I looked Chamberlain up on Wikipedia to make sure I had my facts straight before posting a response. This is from the Wikipedia article:

Your predictions seem feasible. I really hope the Warriors beat the Mavs. That'd be a sweet upset for decades to come. Houston seems to have everything together and it's either the Spurs or Rockets for the West and most likely Detroit to represent the East. I believe the Rockets would beat Detroit in the Finals and Tracy McGrady would have to carry the team, not Yao.

i feel that they should come up with a one on one competition... like kobe vs lebron... iverson vs wade or whatever... or they can do like the video game nba jam where they pick the best 2 players on a team and play 2 on 2... to me i think that will be good to watch.... i know there are alot of cons to that idea but it can be fixed...

Everyone knows about the Knicks, the Lakers have had issues since Jerry West left, and the Timberwolves.....Kevin McHale has proven he can't manage a franchise and they pissed away one of the greatest players in the game today by not complementing him with the talent he needed to play beyond April, and they're only going to get worse.

A few years ago you could've said Portland, but maybe things are better there now that most of the "JailBlazers" are gone?

Sonics--all the turmoil with owner Clay Bennett wanting them out of Seattle...the city fighting them for the lease on Key Arena.

Grizzlies--have had issues for years. Owner wants to sell the team, couldn't cut it in Vancouver...now they want out of Memphis, Pau Gasol is always unhappy, never won a playoff game.
The 4th Right now I'd have to say Bulls because there 2-10 and can't get a win. Considering they were a threat last year there this years joke. All there players were playing great last year and there a very young team.

And the 5th goes to Seattle theve been a failure for a while and need to get a big player because if they can't do it with ray allen it will have to take somebody like Dwight Howard, LeBron or even McGrady.

Even though I hate them it has to be the Boston Celtics. They have a ton of HoF's in their franchise history and I'm not sure about the total number of championships, but I know they have more than anyone else.
NBA greatest Franchise of all times I would have to say goes to the Celtics and the Lakers. They both have a great history in the sport and possesed some of the greatest plyers the game has ever seen. Currently the best franchise of the past five years has to be the Spurs and the Pistons. Both of these teams has owned their respective confrences for the past 5 or 6 years. They're also teams that are under the radar every year, and every yeear make a great run to the finals of the confrences.

The prestiges of winning any of the competitions mention are different. But for me, if I am the player, it is the best if I could win it all. But the pride of representing your country and winning the gold will give great national pride.

1. I like McGrady more, but can't lie and say he owns more than Kobe. McGrady has never even got out of the first round of the playoffs - pathetic; and that's with a decent supporting cast (YAO).

2. A solid team in the Playoffs will be the Dallas Mavericks. They lost the Championships two years ago and were eliminated in the first round last year. They will come back with vengence and go far.

3. My least favorite player in the NBA has got to be Antoine Walker. Overrated and terrible, theres just not much more to say.

4. My favorite player would have to be either Elton Brand or Kevin Garnett, both great players bent on winning and willing to work hard to get there. They each have a great personality, on and off the court.

6. My favorite team was and still is the L.A. Clippers. They have suffered a lot and will eventually be good and a true championship contender, but injuries are killing us. What happened to Livingston was terrible, and with Brand out now, we don't have much of a chance.

7. For every good center in the NBA, there are ten shooting guards, making the centers more valuable. And, no shooting guard can come even close to stopping a Shaq or Dwight Howard in the post whereas a center can play off a shooting guard and make them shoot jumpshots.

With so much footage to review and players, coaches and officials to interview, the league probably will need time to make its ruling.

"We don't have timetable for when the decision will be reached," NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Sunday.

Still, it might well come Monday since both teams play that night. The league's policy has been to rule on any suspensions before the teams involved play their next game.

The Knicks host Utah on Monday; the Nuggets are home against Washington.

Anthony could receive one of the harshest penalties. He twice escalated actions, shoving Robinson in the neck and throwing a hard punch that dropped Collins just when things seemed to be calming down.

Last season, Orlando's Keyon Dooling was suspended five games without pay and Seattle's Ray Allen three for their fight, which also spilled into the crowd. Dooling threw a punch that did not connect.

NBA plus/minus stat?

Can anyone find me a site that records players' plus/minus stats? For those of you who don't know what a plus/minus stat is, it's basically where they record how many points a player's team either leads by or trails by while that player is on the court to determine the direct effect that player has on the team's success. They use it in hockey a lot and it's becoming more commonly used in the NBA among analysts. It's still a new concept to some, so finding an updated site that lists players' plus/minus stats is hard. Thanks for any help.

You've got the Suns vs the Spurs in the second round and they're the 2 and 3 seeds respectively. IMO, this should be the West final (no disrespect to the Warriors and Rockets/Jazz) and the whole controversy about the higher ranked teams playing each other in the second round will come up again.

I don't think the format makes sense in the first place because what would be the point of giving division winners a seed in the top 4 yet allowing the 5th seed, which has a better record, to gain home court? (eg. the Bulls/Heat series)

I think the NBA should follow the same format the NHL has and have the same 8 seeds positioned by record, with the division winners in the top 4, and getting home court in the first round. In the second round, like the NHL, they should reseed according to their records to avoid the 1 vs 4 showdown and therefore the two teams with the best records would only meet in the conference finals.

I think the NBA is just lazy and wants to have its brackets.

I do not know why the NBA cannot get its playoff format correct. They have more than enough examples to look at. The NHL has the same divisional structure as the NBA and always awards the team that played their best during the regular season with home ice and their opponent is the lowest seed team to reach the next round.

This isn't rocket science. Take a math course and figure it out. To me, the current NBA playoff format is the most stupid format I have ever seen which could result in the worst conference finals and NBA finals in History.

Yeah, it didn't quite work this year, but they'll keep tweaking it. We know the NBA likes to experiment, and they've shown that they're not stubborn. If something doesn't work even for just one year, they'll try something else.

I think that it is fine on TNT. However I liked the old days where TNT showed games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. ESPN would show any other games on Monday, Friday, and Saturday and NBC usually had a double header every Sunday. Sometimes a triple header. My beef with ABC is that they don't broadcast enough regular season games. Sometimes they show one game on Sunday and that just seems silly to me. Not every household has cable or satellite TV for many reasons. Some don't care for it, others can afford it. I think it's wrong to deprive a young fan whose parents may not be able to afford cable from seeing a good amount of games. Lucky for me I've got the Direct TV sports bundle.

I think that TNTis a great network for basketball. They do a tremendous job with their coverage. As for kicking the NBA of ABC/ESPN, I don't think that should or will happen. The local FSN networks pick up many of the games the big networks don't broadcast, and do a good job covering them. I think if a network such as ABC dropped their coverage it would be bad for the sport. Many people do not receive expanded cable or dish packages and would miss out on many of the games.

It's not that simple these networks have contracts with the NBA and unless the ratings fall to below acceptable levels, these networks will carry the NBA until their contract expires. There is another problem TBS just became the home of the NL playoffs this year and all the way through the playoffs starting next year. Not to mention NCAA football as well.

The NFL is great becuase for the most part they can cut players that are no longer competetive and it wont hurt their salary cap. The NBA on the other hand is loaded with these lazy kids who have got a guaranteed contract so they can just mail it in every day without really working hard. They can talk back to their coach and even demand that the coach gets fired, which is easier for an orginization to do. The NBA needs to switch to an NFL format whereas if you suck you get cut. If you don't want to play hard, you get cut (no money). If you want to act like a clown and not listen to the coach Stephon Marburay, you get cut. Simple as that.

You have to be 19 and at least one year removed from high school. Ben Wallace played for Virginia Union. You may submit your name into the NBA Draft even if you never played for a team and if you are good. You have to fill out a form and send them into the NBA League office. Most NBA pre-draft camps are by invitation only so it would be up to you to get a tryout for a team, either finding an agent or contacting a team requesting a tryout but most teams dont waste their time with people they never heard of. It is a long journey so you have to perservere and use every resource possible.

I believe the person would need some kind of agent to sign up for the NBA draft. They can sign up, but that doesn't mean they'll be drafted, or even noticed for that matter. ...and all that money spent on the agent just to sign them up will go to waste.

As far as requirements go, the only requirement for entering was that you needed to be 18 to enter. However, things changed last year when the NBA required players to have graduated high school and wait 1 year after their high school graduation to enter.

NBA teams hold summer leagues annually, as well as training camps. Getting into the NBA requires a LOT more than being a great player. Being in the NBA, evencollegelevel requires studying playbooks and literally memorizing hundreds of plays. It also requires teamwork, court awareness, etc etc. (while being VERY tired) Just being able to take on someone 1v1 in streetball won't cut it.

However, if someone was feeling really serious about it, I'd suggest hiring an agent first thing, then have them contact a team's GM or assistant GM about attending a team's training camp in the summer. Probably what'll happen is they'll have some kind of pre-training camp thing, just to filter out the guys to make it to the camp. After that, I think they usually select a few people from the camp to participate in the summer league. If they stand out in the summer league and they're liked, they'd have a CHANCE at get signed in for the NBA's minimum wage (about 250k or 500k per season).

If you never played high school orcollegeball, it'll be very hard to get NBA team's attention. You'll need your agent to contact the teams individual and let them know you wish to schedule a private work out with them. You can also sign up for the Combine, which is a camp where they test your speed, strength, athletic abilities, shooting range, and even basketball skills. How you fare during these 2 tryouts will determine whether you get drafted or not. Ben Wallace did play somecollegeball but at a relatively unknown junior college. So just like job hunting, if you want an NBA team to take a chance on you, you need some kind of credential, either high school orcollegeresume. You're really going to have to WoW them with your workout and prove to them without a doubt, you are the diamond in the rough in this draft. The bottom line argument is why should they waste a precious draft pick on you vs. the rest of the kids in the country. It's a competitive sport and only the most athletically gifted and talented players make it out of the woods.
