I think it's a crime to have West as the symbol %26amp; not MJ. Michael Jordan made a much LARGER impact on the NBA then Jerry West. Most of the time you think of basketball MJ would enter your head. To be honest I don't know how West became the symbol anyways. There been others players before West that was greater then him.

Very good question. Back in the early 90's, i myself thought with very strong conviction, that MJ's impact on the league was so huge that they should very well change it. He has done everything that Jerry West has done.... 10 times over! Don't even get me started talking about the NBA as entertainment. MJ is the one who gave it global appeal. MJ is the one who boosted sales for NBA apparel through the roof. MJ's superstar level charisma and showmanship are the reasons that the NBA has been in constant search for the "next MJ". I mean anyone who can't see that, just hasn't been watching basketball for at least 20 years. His impact was not only felt even as a rookie in the league, but it transcended sports...let alone just basketball. He even raised the bar for other so called superstars in other sports. Look what he has done for NIKE and GATORADE. Please tell me WHO has EVER in ANY sport, (while actually playing) generated so much attention...so much respect...so much fear from would be opponents... so many ooooh's and aaaah's and straight up inspiring and heroic moments.... WHO HAS EVER DONE THAT??? i'll tell you who....NO ONE! do i think the NBA should change the logo? the answer is YES! but if they haven't even considered it by now, chances are they never will. Yeah....true basketball fans know who is Jerry West.... BUT people everywhere, including those who do not even watch sports, know who MJ is. I'm certain David Stern is enjoying the fruits of MJ's impact on the NBA.
