If you were a professional basketball player, would you rather have five to six NBA championships (or any professional league you are in) or 2 or 3 Gold medals playing for you country in the world basketball championships or only one Olypmic Gold medal playing for your country?
I would choose the Olympic Gold medal.

NBA championship is fine. However, being a World Champion/ Olympic Champion with your nation brings a sense of national pride.

NBA championships. That's where the best competition is and what you fight for year after year if you are in the NBA. With all the international competitions (at least for most countries) You don't play with those guy's all year so it's like an all star game. It's not the same. NBA championship all the way.

The prestiges of winning any of the competitions mention are different. But for me, if I am the player, it is the best if I could win it all. But the pride of representing your country and winning the gold will give great national pride.
NBA because that means money and people will still buy your throwback jersey 20 yrs later. Athletes need to be appropriately compensated for time sacrifices to represent their country.
World Champs? Olympic Champs? Very nice but who can name the current world champs complete squad? Probably not even the people in Spain.
